Week of 5/14-5/18

Important Information:

 

​We are running low on classroom snack, pencils, and dry erase markers. All contributions are appreciated. Thank you to those parents who have already sent in supplies. 

Make sure your child is wearing sneakers and dressed appropriately for outdoor recess. Please continue to send a note for any changes in dismissal.

Wednesday, 5/15 is an Early Release day.

Thursday 5/16 is our Media Day. Please be sure to send in the library book.

​Friday, 5/18 is our trip to see Skippyjon Jones in Tarrytown. 

​Please be sure you have completed all permission slips for our field trips.

​What We Are Learning:

 

​Reader's Workshop - We will be reading circular stories and then beginning our poetry unit.

​We will meet for guided reading groups/ and or reading conferences this week focusing on skills to move your child ahead as a reader. DRA testing continues.

​Phonics - We are working in small groups on specific skills your child needs instruction on.

​Writer's Workshop - We will be revising, editing, and publishing our narratives.

​Math - We will be begin Unit 8.

​Social Studies/Character/Science - We are examining studying butterflies and their lifecycles. 

 

​Homework Reminders:


​Homework is given every night from Monday - Thursday.

​Book in a Bag - students choose three books on Monday for the week and return the bag on Friday. Please let me know on the log if the book was at an appropriate level - not too easy or difficult. Reading is the most important homework.

Spelling/Vocabulary

​This is to be completed in the notebook. Please be green by having  your child use both sides of the page.

This week's words are compound words - sometimes, everyone, mailbox, raincoat, classroom

Wednesday - write 3 times each in our neatest handwriting.

Thursday - write in ABC order/practice for our spelling test.

Math

An Everyday Math sheet will come home which reviews what we are learning in class.
