Parent Involvement
Parent involvement in the education of our students is a critical component of Roxbury School. Research shows that when schools and families work together to support learning, everyone benefits. Students do better in school and in life. Schools get better and communities grow stronger. At Roxbury, we have a home-school compact that outlines some important ways to support your child's education. This includes volunteering at least 10 hours a year to the school; Sending your children to school appropriately dressed, prepared to learn, and on time; Reading to or with your children at least 15-20 minutes a night; Emptying the book bag nightly and checking for important messages from teachers; Attending parent/teacher conferences throughout the year to discuss the academic progress of their children; Assisting with homework assignments on a regular basis to ensure completeness and accuracy; Supervising the music and television to ensure that children are not exposed to innapropriate content, poor language or behavior.
Roxbury's Organization of Parents and Educators (ROPE) provides more opportunities for families and students to support the entire school community. ROPE's support for the school includes funding field trips for students; cultural enrichment, after school programs, improvements to facilities, and family fun nights such as community fairs, softball nights and dances.
