Dear Families,
Welcome Back! We hope our students had a restful summer and are ready to go for the 09-10 school year. We are beginning this school year as a true Learning Organization. Our school is structured to support continuous improvement in teaching and learning. Please come to our first ROPE meeting to learn more about updates to our School Improvement Plan.
New Arrival and Dismissal Procedures:
For arrival:
Drop off begins at 8:45 in the back of the school. Although we do provide care for students beginning at 8:30 inside the corridor atop the stairs, there is no supervision outside of the school before 8:45. The students should be mature enough to get inside on their own, or should be escorted to the top of the stairs until they are familiar with the routine. Students must also bring a book to read while they wait.
From 8:45 until 9:00, parents may pull up to the sidewalk in the back of the school and allow children to hop out of the car. There are teachers and assistants on duty to supervise students. Parents should not get out of their cars at this time. For parents who wish to walk their children in, you may park in front of the school on West Hill Road and walk your child into the building. For safety reasons, students may not be dropped off in front of the school.
At 9:00, teachers go inside to start the academic day and the back doors are locked. If students arrive late to school, they must enter through the front doors and report to the main office to sign in.
For dismissal:
The fastest and safest way to pick up students is to wait in the car line and allow your child / children to hop right into the car from the sidewalk.
If you prefer to park and pick up your child on foot, you can help by not waiting on the sidewalk area. This will allow the students to come down the stairs and onto the sidewalk area safely. There will be less confusion and students will be able to more easily notice their cars. If we can make the area calmer, students will be less stressed out about where there parents are. Always consider that young children see the world from our hips, and walking through a sea of adults when looking for mom or dad can be frightening. To help with this, we began cordoning off the sidewalk with cones today.
Remember: We teach until 3:15. We begin to call car riders and walkers at 3:17. It will take at least 10 minutes to clear the building. Dismissal does not officially start until 3:30. Therefore, there is no need to come much before 3:30.
Thank you for all you do,
Mrs. Manna
