Here's what we're studying in Room 506.
LITERACY: We're beginning our author study in reading. Your child should be coming home talking about Chris Van Allsburg books. In writing, we're continuing our work on narrative writing using the writer's diamond. Be sure to have your child share information about the diamond and his/her writing. Please be sure your child completes the Reading Log each week night.
MATH: The children will be taking their Unit 3 Assessment this Wednesday. Have your child share the reviews we've been working on in class. Later in the week, we'll be beginning Unit 4 on Decimals and Their Uses. We'll study decimal place value, review basic decimal concepts, compare and order decimals, and add and subtract decimals. We'll also study metric units of length. Please be sure your child does his/her Study Link homework each week night.
SOCIAL STUDIES; The children are working diligently on their explorer research. Please ask your child what he/she has learned about about the explorer and the project. Our Explorer Presentations/Feast will be on December 6. Thank you to the parents who attended our planning meeting this past Wednesday.
SCIENCE; We've begun our Ecosystem unit. We've made the aquarium part of the ecocolumn with its elodea, duckweed, algae, mosquito fish and snails and are looking forward to the arrival of the crickets and pill bugs for the terrarium part. Then we'll be able to assemble the ecocolumn and investigate the dependence and interdependence of living and non-living things.
