  Roxbury Family-School Compact

 A Family-School Compact for Student Success is an agreement that parents, students and teachers develop together.  It explains how parents and teachers will work together to make sure all students get the individual support they need to reach and exceed grade level standards.   The Board of Education of the Stamford Public Schools has established the following five goals.    

1. The Stamford Public Schools will increase academic achievement of all students
2. The Stamford Public Schools will address the Achievement Gap
3. The Stamford Public Schools will increase the meaningful engagement of all families and the community
4. The Stamford Public Schools will provide all students with a world-class professional staff
5. The Stamford Public Schools will maintain efficient and effective operations

 As a STUDENT,   I will do my personal best to…..

• Do my best work at all times
• Ask for help when I do not understand
• Respect other s, the community, and myself
• Help make the school safe by following classroom and school rules
• Take pride in my school and my work.
• Read every day
• Take responsibility for my learning and behavior

 As a STUDENT, I need…..

• Learning to be meaningful and relevant
• Teachers and school staff who care about me
• People who believe I can learn and encourage me to do so
• Respect from peers and adults
• A safe school
• A family and community that support me
• Someone to read with me and help me with my homework
• Time with caring adults

 As a PARENT, I will do my personal best to..

• Send my child to school, rested, in good health, well fed and ready to learn
• Check my child’s homework and make sure it is complete
• Monitor my child’s TV viewing, internet, music and video games
• Set aside time to take my child to outside learning activities
• Provide an appropriate place for my child to do homework
• Read to my child or have my child read to me everyday
• Support school efforts to develop and maintain discipline
• Demonstrate my own commitment to high standards of learning, behavior and family values
• Meet with teachers for conferences
• Talk to my child each day about what happened in school
• Volunteer at school, whenever possible
• Support the policies and procedures of the district and the school

 As a PARENT/Guardian, I need…..

• Clear, frequent and timely communication with the school.
• Teachers and staff who respect my role as a parent/caring adult.
• Respect for myself, my culture, and my children as individuals
• Support from other adults in the school community

• Recognize the strengths and needs of your child
• Help your child follow the classroom and school rules
• Provide a high quality learning experience for your child
• Communicate regularly with you to support student learning and share your child’s progress
• Monitor homework and provide positive feedback
• Be flexible in meeting with you about your child
• Set high standards for your child’s learning and behavior
• Continue to reflect on my teaching methods and provide for your child’s needs
• Utilize parents and community members as resources to support student learning
• Provide experiences that encourage an interest in learning
